SLEEPERS AND BUSTS - WEEK 7
FREAKS, GEEKS, AND THE GAME OF THE WEEK - Week 7
Week 6 has come and gone, and what did we learn?
We learned that no one is safe. 2017 has now claimed the #1 RB in David Johnson, arguably the #1 WR in OBJ, and now the #1 QB inAaron Rodgers. Gronk better watch his back. We learned that Kyle Shanahan was more important to the Falcon's offense than previously believed. We learned that the Andrew Luck comeback suffered a set back. And, we learned that Deshaun Watson is no joke
So, how did we do in Week 6? Well life happened and we weren't able to complete this piece in time for the games. Our apologies...But quit bringing up old shit, lets get started on Week 7.
FREAKS - SLEEPER STARTS AND OVERACHIEVERS
Sleeper: Blake Bortles /JAC
Yep, I'm doing it. After an entire offseason of bashing Bortles, we have finally come around to naming him a sleeper. Some people may forget that Bortles may have looked ugly doing it, but Bortles has a top-10 and a top-5 fantasy QB finish under his belt. Bortles has a great matchup against a Colts D that let a hampered Mariota throw for over 300 yards against them.
Other QB Sleeper Starts: CJ Beathard / SF; Jared Goff / LAR; Tyrod Taylor / TB
Freak: Matt Ryan / ATL
Much like Bortles, the Circus has been off Matt Ryan since the offseason as well. We told you not to draft him early. We said he would have a down year. Then, last week, we reversed course and told many of our IG followers to play him with confidence. The Falcons were at home, coming off a Bye, and hosting the Dolphins... Sorry. Jay Cutler outscored him. Now, the 2016 MVP gets the Patriots D in a Super Bowl rematch. This should be his coming out party.
Sleeper: Alvin Kamara / NO
Week 6 may lead you to believe that Mark Ingram is going to gobble up all of Adrian Peterson's touches. That will not be the case every week. Game flow - the Saints Defense scored a ton of points, and the Saints were up big early - was the primary reason Ingram got the rock so much. Sean Payton and Drew Brees love Kamara, and for good reason. The former Volunteer RB got the juice. I love Kamara against the Packers in PPR, and he still has a lot of value in Standard. He is a FANTASTIC flex and good RB2 going forward. If you are in a Dynasty league... go get this man.
Other RB Sleeper Starts: Derrick Henry / TEN; James White / NE
Freak: Ezekiel Elliot / DAL
Zeke has had one hell of a ride this season. Most recently, the Southern District of NY granted Zeke a temporary restraining order, good for 14 days, until the Judge (who was on vacation) can rule on his preliminary injunction motion. All this means is that Zeke gets to suit up for his juiciest matchup of the season against the 49ers awful run defense. Zeke should eat.
Cooper Kupp / LAR
Kupp has been up and down this season from a fantasy standpoint. He is matched up against a Cardinal D that, outside of Patrick Peterson, has been uncharacteristically poor defending the pass this year. Peterson, who is banged up, is in line to play this week, but he will line up against Watkins. Kupp, who works mostly out of the slot, and Robert Woods will have to bear the rest of the load left by Todd Gurley.
Other WR Sleepers: Marquise Lee / JAC; Danny Amendola / NE
Freak: Julio Jones / ATL
Surprisingly, Julio has yet to find the endzone this season. That ends this week. Ryan goes to Julio often against the Pats on Sunday night. Julio finds the endzone twice in a high scoring affair.
Sleeper: George Kittle / SF
Kittle has 17 targets with 11 receptions for 129 yards and a TD over the last two weeks. Now, Hoyer is out and Kittle's college QB CJ Beathard is in. They have built in chemistry and I expect the former Iowa QB to lean on his TE.
Other TE Sleeper Starts: Hunter Henry / LAC; Tyler Kroft / CIN
GEEKS - BUST STARTS AND UNDERACHIEVERS
Phillip Rivers / DEN
Rivers is going to meet a Denver D that was embarrassed last week against the Giants. I think he struggles in this one and that the Broncos force some turnovers.
The Entire Green Bay Backfield
This has RBBC written all over it. Worse than that, Green Bay could be missing 3 starting Offensive line men on Sunday, and even worse than that, they are without Aaron Rodgers. I know the Saints defense isn't great, but they will get pressure in this one.
TY Hilton / IND
Hilton has two tings working against him this week. First, we received bad news on Andrew Luck. He suffered a set back in his recovery, and the Colts are stopping him from throwing. The Colts also play the Jaguars this week and their fantastic CBs.
Martellus Bennett / GB
All hope for the talented TE is now lost. Bennett has been giving his owners fits all season, I can't convey how many times we have been asked whether people should start or sit him. The silver lining of the Rodger's injury (who are we kidding, there is none) is that you don't have to ask that question anymore.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Atlanta Falcons at New England Patriots
The Falcons thought the Super Bowl rematch was last week when they squandered a 17 point lead against the Dolphins.
I am most excited to watch the Falcon offense, which has struggled to fire on all cylinders all season long, against the painfully bad New England defense. Enjoy your Super Bowl rematch now, because you won't see these teams play on February 4th.
