2018 Top 10 Fantasy Running Backs
TOP 10 FANTASY RUNNING BACKS
Although the start of the fantasy season is still a month or two away, depending on your draft date, we decided to get back into gear. Ideally, we would have already released content by this point, but we have had a busy off season. Two of us got engaged, two started new jobs, and our Production guy is having a second child. I personally got engaged, started a new job, and made my biggest time commitment of all - I made the dangerous decision of getting back into the WWE. I'm not making excuses, just giving you a reason. If you don't like it...
...DEAL WITH IT
We do, however, sincerely apologize that we are not already on a roll. In our opinion, it's in these months before the actual start of the NFL season where Fantasy Championships are won. The research and time you put in now is what gives you the proper foundation and tools to make the right decisions on draft day, the waiver wire and the trading block.
Now, we have the tent pitched, the popcorn is popping, and the cotton candy is... cottoning? Ladies and Gentleman, boys and girls, welcome to the greatest show on Earth. The Fantasy Football Circus is back in town.
We are going to start the season off with Top 10 posts for RB, WR, QB, and TE. These initial rankings may seem a bit bold at times, but we wanted to have fun with it and go with our guts and bump some of the players we are hype on. These will certainly be changed and expanded on as we move through the preseason games and find out more about the teams and players' roles. As a reminder, or if you are new to us, we base our ranks on .5 PPR Redraft Leagues. The more you interact with us and the more friends you tell, the sooner we will be able to expand to providing detailed insights into all league types.
These are our consensus ranks for everyone working for the Circus brand. We will eventually provide both the individual and consensus ranks as we get closer to the season.
We hope you enjoy the articles and join the debate on Instagram - Oh you didn't know? You can follow us on Instagram at @fantasyfootballcircus for fantasy updates, analysis, and dank.
THE CIRCUS CONSENSUS TOP 10 RUNNING BACKS
1. TODD GURLEY - LAR
The only sure thing in Fantasy Football is you are going to be wrong some of the time and I'm man enough to eat my crow when its served to me. Gurley far outperformed my expectations last season (far out performed everyone's expectations if we are being honest with ourselves) in fact, I pegged him as a sell high candidate. In 12 team .5 ppr leagues, Gurley ended the year 169.1 points above replacement - that is insane. McVay is the truth and McVay wants to feed Gurley. If I have the first overall pick in my draft this year, Gurley is my guy.
2. LEVEON BELL - PIT
If I don't have the #1 overall, Bell is my guy. He may be the most talented of the RBs, but he is more injury prone than Gurley. In our individual ranks, Bell was the only player other than Gurley to take the #1 spot.
3. EZEKIEL ELLIOT - DAL
Zeke missed 6 games last year and still finished as a top 10 RB. If he is able to stay on the field, he is locked in as a top 5 guy with #1 upside.
4. DAVID JOHNSON - ARI
The Circus staff was consistent with our DJ ranks. He took the #4 spot on each of our boards. I, however, am not sold. Johnson is not going to score 20 TDs like he did in 2016. Its just not happening. The only reason I kept him up so high is that he figures to be the guy in an awful Cardinals offense. He will get 330+ touches. The problem is the Cardinals offense is going to be awful and every single defense will key in on DJ.
5. ALVIN KAMARA - NO
Kamara finished the 2017 season with 101 targets 82 receptions 826 yards and 5 receiving TDs. He would have been the #24 WR. He put up better WR numbers than Dez Bryant, TY Hilton, Amari Cooper, and Jordy Nelson. Oh, yeah, almost forgot that he also runs the ball.
6. MELVIN GORDON - LAC
7. SAQUON BARKLEY - NYG
You don't draft a guy #2 in an NFL draft unless you are going to use him. Barkley is going to be a three-down back and see around 350 touches this year. Don't be afraid to take a rookie, I'd love to have Barkely on my team this year. I personally have him as a top 7 overall pick.
8. KAREEM HUNT - KC
9. LEONARD FOURNETTE - JAX
If Blake Bortles can continue where he left off last season, teams won't be so quick to stack the box against the Jags. That should open up some lanes for Fournette. The foot thing is a concern though, it has plagued Fournette since forever.
10A. DALVIN COOK - MIN
Before his injury, Cook showed real potential to be a fantasy stud. I don't expect the ACL to have any impact on Cook this season. He should come back just as good if not better.
10B. DERRICK HENRY - TEN
We wanted it all of last season, now we have it. Henry is the man in Tennessee. He is also a physical specimen. The Dion Lewis signing is a bit worrisome though. We will have to keep an eye on whether Lewis' presence relegates Henry to a two down back.
